In the year 2009, 59,583 national German patent applications, 17,306 utility model applications, 69,069 trademark applications and 44,714 design applications were filed in the German Patent and Trademark Office (source: DPMA).
Furthermore, 134,542 European patent applications, 88,271 European Community trademark applications and 71,608 European Community design applications were filed last year (source: EPO and OHIM, respectively).
